Mayor


Mayor de Leon, a long time resident of Balcones Heights, is serving her third consecutive term as Mayor after serving one year on Planning and Zoning and four consecutive years on City Council.  Mayor de Leon works for Catholic Charities and is the founder and executive director of San Antonio Birth Doulas and executive director of Guadalupe Home.

Mayor de Leon’s mission and goal while serving as mayor is to promote Balcones Heights and encourage economic development while continuing to provide excellent services to our citizens.  Mayor de Leon believes that the city’s potential for growth at this critical time in our history has unlimited possibilities.

Amy Buckert
City Administrator

A native of the San Antonio area, Amy Buckert is a graduate of Clark High School and UTSA. After earning her Masterís in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, she worked in the City Managerís Office for the Cities of Lewisville and Hurst, both in the DFW area. Ms. Buckert moved back home in 2007 to take the job as the city manager of Olmos Park. After almost four years in that organization, she has joined our team here in Balcones Heights. Ms. Buckert also serves as the Vice President of the Region 8 Texas City Managerís Association. Ms. Buckert was married to Terry Nolan in 2007, and they welcomed their son, Slade, in February of 2010.

 
 
Linda Pohl

Linda Pohl
City Councilwoman
Place 1

Ms. Pohl has been a Balcones Heights homeowner since 1967. Previously to her current term, she served two terms on City Council, Chaired the City’s Board of Adjustments, and was a member of the City’sPlanning and Zoning Commission. Ms. Pohl is retired from the U.S. District Court,
Western District of Texas. She is also a retired professor of Criminal Justice, University of Phoenix.

Madeline A. Slay
City Councilwoman
Place 2

Mrs. Slay has lived in Balcones Heights for over 14 years. She is also the owner of Madeline Anz Slay Architecture, which is located in the former Balcones Heights City Hall building. Prior to the 2012 General Election she was serving as Chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission. She is a registered architect, a member of several organizations including the American Institute of Architects, and the recipient of multiple awards for her leadership and business skills.

Jack Burton
Mayor Pro Tem/City Councilman
Place 3

Jack Burton, after living in Balcones Heights since the late 1960s, was elected to City Council in May 2013. Previous to his run for City Council, Mr. Burton served as the Vice Chairman of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He is no stranger to public service; his father was a member of the Balcones Heights volunteer Fire Department and his mother was an Election judge for the City. Mr. Burton has had an extensive career in television dating back to 1989, when he was a studio camera man at KMOL-TV, and worked his way up to eventually become a full-time Director and Producer. In 2009, he left WOAI-TV to start Post it Productions, where he directs, produces, shoots, and edits commercials for broadcast television. In his spare time, Mr. Burton enjoys fishing, golfing, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.



Lamar Gillian
City Councilman
Place 4

Mr. Gillian has served as City Councilman since May of 2005. A resident of the City since 1975, he previously served on the Balcones Heights Board of Adjustments. He retired from Randolph AFB in 2001.

Charles White
City Councilman
Place 5

Charles White elected in May of 2011, grew up in Balcones Heights. A retired HVAC technician, Mr. White looks forward to making our city a better place to live, work, shop, visit, and play.
