Development Services Coordinator/Code Enforcement/Building Official

Job Description:
This position reports to the City Administrator and is responsible for the overall direction management and supervision of the Development Services Department, to include code enforcement, building/facility maintenance and inspections, and park and street maintenance. This position requires extensive administrative experience and broad knowledge in permit issuance, code enforcement, facility and grounds maintenance and building and health inspections. This individual is responsible for the development and execution of objectives and goals that carry out the mission of the department, as well as supervision of the maintenance staff. This position will coordinate with the City’s Fire Marshal, Police Chief and City Engineer, in addition to contract employees to effectively manage day-to-day operations regarding plan review, inspections and code enforcement. Individual must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, must be available for calls/consultation after hours on occasion, and be effective in conflict resolution with an eye toward public awareness/education and voluntary cooperation. Planning and zoning experience/knowledge a plus. This position will be largely self-motivated and directed and continuously striving to improve operations and efficiencies.

Job Qualifications:
• Possession of ICC Certification as a Building Official is preferred.
• Must be able to obtain Basic Texas Code Enforcement Certification within 90 days and Intermediate Certification within one year.
• Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, engineering, natural resource management, landscape architecture, geography, environmental, business, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
• Five years’ experience to include at least three years of management experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Compensation/Benefits:
• Full time, exempt position
• $38,900 starting salary
• TMRS 7%, 2 to 1 match, Paid health/dental for employee

Deputy Court Clerk

The City of Balcones Heights, Texas, is now accepting applications for the Full-time position of Deputy Court Clerk. Applicants must have the ability to acquire knowledge of municipal court procedures and other related regulations and codes; ability to operate or demonstrate ability to learn to operate a computer and other standard office machines; ability to understand oral and written instructions and directions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and with the general public; must practice sound safety and work habits.

Requires high school graduate or equivalent with courses in typing and/or bookkeeping preferable and minimum of one year’s progressively responsible experience in clerical functions of the judicial system, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities or an equivalent combination of training, and experience. Part-time DISPATCHER

Maintains and operates a central point for receiving emergency and non-emergency information via E911 telephone, non-emergency telephone, two-way radio, Mobile Data Terminal, teletype and by person between the public, law enforcement emergency services, outside public safety agencies, and numerous other outside agencies.

Requirements: HS graduate, or equivalent, must possess or have the ability to obtain the State of Texas TCLEOSE Telecommunications Operator Certification within six months of employment. Prior emergency dispatching experience preferred. Multi-tasking skills a must. Hours include shift work, weekends and holidays.
Must be available to work 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and/or 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
